Ole Miss Requests $2M Annual Funding for Gambling Research Center

The University of Mississippi has asked state legislators to approve $2 million in annual funding for its newly established Center on Collegiate Gambling and the upcoming Mississippi Gambling Clinic. The allocation aims to support research and treatment programs focused on problem gambling.

Facility Development

The university’s proposal directs the budget toward two primary initiatives. The Center on Collegiate Gambling will operate as a research division, while the Mississippi Gambling Clinic will provide clinical treatment services. Both facilities are designed to address gambling-related issues within the state.

Online sports betting legislation has stalled in Mississippi for three consecutive sessions. Lawmakers have not advanced the relevant bill during this period. The university maintains that gambling-related challenges require dedicated institutional support regardless of the legislative pause.
